What stands out about us

Kithara Project’s Mexico City program was launched shortly after Kithara Project’s incorporation in 2015 and for 10 years has opened its doors to young people in the community of Yuguelito, in the historically neglected district of Iztapalapa in eastern Mexico City. In 2022 the program celebrated the ribbon-cutting of its very own music school, the result of a years-long collaboration between Kithara Project, local community leaders, student families, and the architecture firm TO Estudios. In the years since, the school has won three major international architecture awards for its ingenious use of recycled materials and its poetic integration into a challenging site.

Kithara Project’s Mexico City program also offers a select number of students the opportunity to learn guitar construction and repair under the guidance of Maestro Pedro Villegas.

What stands out about us

Boston is Kithara Project’s oldest programming site. Some students have been with the program for over 6 years, and this long term commitment led to the formation of an Advanced Quintet. As our programming evolved, we also began to offer a supplemental Musicianship & Technique course to our intermediate and advanced students. This course serves to bolster students’ learning, development, and comprehension skills on their instruments. The curriculum was pioneered in Boston, and is ready to be deployed at other Kithara Project locations.

The introduction of a long-term, sustainable classical guitar program at Hope High aligns seamlessly with the school’s vision and resources, as it serves as a powerful tool for creative expression, cultural connection and community building. It will give students a distinctive and enriching opportunity to complement the existing academic and artistic pathways at the school.
